Today was the final Quick on the Uptake

by: ericf

Tue Jul 27, 2010 at 23:32:00 PM CDT

The last broadcast of Quick on the Uptake was made this afternoon. The show was live on AM950 KTNF at 5 PM weekdays, and will be replaced by Nancy Nelson, who has a show on Saturdays and recently filled in while host Mike McIintee was gone.

The is not the end of The Uptake, just the daily radio show. The web site continues. Mike explained that it was a matter of available time. He pays the bills as a video editor, and he described The Uptake as his "passion", and something had to go. Unfortunately for his regular listeners, the radio show was it.

Mike said he left on good terms with station management, and he reminded his listeners the station is a local independent, not a big corporate station, and we're fortunate for that. He said he'll still be on the air occasionally, and indeed he was a regular guest on The Mark Heaney Show prior to getting his own show.

Speaking for myself, the show's end will leave a gap in my ipod, since I listened to the podcast almost every day I didn't hear it live. I don't know how long the podcasts will be available, but for the moment, they can be downloaded at http://www.am950ktnf.com/liste...

The Big E on the radio

by: The Big E

Wed Jun 02, 2010 at 11:10:23 AM CDT

As TwoPuttTommy mentioned yesterday, I'll be guest-hosting Quick on the Uptake on KTNF AM950 today from 5:00 to 6:00PM.  It'll be Dustry Trice and I.

We'll be talking to DFL-endorsed candidate for 41A, Kevin Staunton.  In '08 Kevin lost in a three way race against two Republicans -- Ron Erhardt had switched to Independent after losing the Republican endorsement.  We have a great chance of picking up a seat and we'll have all the details.

We'll also be talking about the Minnesota Governor's race (MN-GOV) and the implications of the candidates' running mate choices.  What do you think about the candidates LG picks?

Call in and tell us ... 952-946-6205

Plus, we'll be discussing whatever other MN political news seems relevant.  Or funny.

Ladies and Gentlemen, yours truly - the ol' TwoPutter - is Guest Hosting this afternoon's Tuesday Edition of "Quick On The UpTake" from 5:00 to 6:00pm on AM-950 KTNF, The Voice of Minnesota. Mike McIntee is taking some well-earned time time off.  I'll be joined in studio by the intrepid political analyst, Dusty Trice!

In addition to talking about important news, we'll take a break from politics to have an in-studio conversation with one of Minnesota's Citizen-Soldiers - Major Rickert - which we feel is fitting as a tribute to those who have worn the uniform on this day after Memorial Day.  Major Rickert will be talking, among other things, about the recent alert that as many as 2,700 fellow Minnesotans may be deployed to Iraq and Kuwait as that war winds down.

We'll also be joined in-studio by candidate for congress in Minnesota's 2nd District, Dan Powers.

Mike is actually taking this week off; tomorrow MPP's very own The Big E will be behind the microphone, and I'll be covering again on Thursday and Friday!

While I'll let The Big E write about what he's got planned for tomorrow's show, I do want to let folk know what we've got for Thursday - you're not going to want to miss it!

We're going to be interviewing (again!) best-selling author and weekly opinion columnist for the Wall Street Journal, Thomas Frank! AM950 Progressive Radio Strikes Out!

by: Bob C. Anderson

Wed Apr 21, 2010 at 00:34:31 AM CDT

******  DINO ALERT  ****** (Democrats In Name Only)

Progressive Radio Programming /
Republican Employee Management Policies and Practices

AM950 ktnf radio promotes itself as "The Voice of Minnesota".  The station performs an important service to Minnesota Progressives by providing a counter-voice to right wing conservative political talk radio commentators such as Rush Limbaugh.

AM950 Radio is Minnesota's only independently owned and managed progressive talk radio station.  It is not a franchise nor is it associated with recently bankrupt AirAmerica Network.  It is owned by husband & wife team Bill Luther and Janet Robert.  Both are attorneys and former members of the DFL United States House of Representatives.  AM950 radio is managed by Janet Robert.

AM950 radio actively supports Unions, public health care reform, and equal rights.  It came to my attention recently that AM950 radio, is guilty of DINO management policies. I find this particularly disturbing when considering that AM950 owner/managers play an active role as leaders of our progressive community.

****************************************

DINO MANAGEMENT VIOLATIONS:

1.  Advocates equal rights for minorities but has a hiring history of zero minority employees.

2.  Advocates affordable public health care, yet AM950 Radio's health care benefit package is expensive and discriminates against older workers and single parents.  Coverage costs start at around $250/month for employees in their 20's and rises to $550/month for employees 55 and older. PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ARE NOT COVERED.

3.  AM950 radio supports unions, but AM950 radio has the highest employee turn-over rate of all local radio stations and appeals EVERY application for unemployment.

4.  Employees are granted only 1 week a year in vacation, while the manager/owners take 7 or more weeks of vacation time a year.

***************************************

These self-serving policies might be partially understood if owner/managers Janet Robert and Bill Luther were on a shoe-string budget, but this couple inherited a net-worth of well over 4 million dollars. I do not believe that the fact that they provide an important service for Minnesota Progressives renders them immune from accountability. In fact, I question how seriously they take their roles if they do not even bother to follow their own progressive voices.

As a progressive, I find this behavior unforgivable.  A true progressive business owner follows progressive policies even when it effects their own pocket-book. A true progressive business owner cares enough about their employees to provide for the health-care and basic human needs of their workers.  A true progressive business owner follows unemployment laws and policies.  A true progressive business owner create benefits that make it possible for minorities, older workers, and single parents to be a part of their business community.

I challenge Janet Robert and Bill Luther to step up to the plate and follow their own progressive voices, to be true progressive leaders in not only voice but in action.

TPT On The Radio, Tonight, March 17th, 2010!

by: TwoPuttTommy

Wed Mar 17, 2010 at 11:22:52 AM CDT

Ladies and Gentlemen, yours truly - the ol' TwoPutter - is Guest Hosting tonight's Wednesday Edition of "Minnesota Matters" on AM-950 KTNF, The Voice of Minnesota.  I'll be joined in studio by ace field reporter and analyst, Dusty Trice!

In addition to talking about breaking news, and absentee Gov. TBag getting caught with his hands in the cookie jar, we'll be talking again with Mike Tikkanen, author of "Invisible Children (The American cycle of abuse and its cost)."  Mike Tikkanen is the founder of Kid's At Risk Action Group (KARA), a non-profit devoted to protecting and advocating for the rights of abused children.  If you are concerned about the least among us, and those that Mike advocates for - children - are just that, this is a show you won't want to miss.

Especially because the following quote is sure to be discussed:

"Children who are victims of failed personal responsibility are not my problem, nor are they the problem for our government."  -- Majority Leader Tim Pawlenty, April 2001 - as quoted in the Aitkin Independent Newspaper (entire column available here)

So, again, tune in the radio today to AM-950, or listen live on your computer, here.

Toni Backdahl and LTC (Ret.) Repya, Last Night On The Radio!

by: TwoPuttTommy

Thu Mar 11, 2010 at 08:04:32 AM CST

In case you missed last night's "Minnesota Matters - Wednesday Edition" on AM-950 KTNF, you can listen to it, here!  IMNSHO, it was a fascinating conversation, and I'd like to thank Toni and Colonel Joe for sharing their thoughts and answering questions!

One of the highights were both Tomi Backdahl, State Coordinator of the Minnesota Tea Party, and LTC (Ret.) Joe Repya clearly repudiating and  distancing themselves from the following quotes:

_ Tom Emmer quote:  "I don't think you can call yourself a freedom-loving American and be a Democrat." Marshall Independent, Sept 2009

_ Tim Pawlenty quote:  "Children who are victims of failed personal responsibility are not my problem, nor are they the problem for our government."  -- Majority Leader Tim Pawlenty, April 2001 - as quoted in the Aitkin Independent Newspaper

During the first segment, we played "False Or False Witness!" where one lucky caller ("Bill" from Mpls) correctly identified that the quote I read actually was uttered by Michele Bachmann ("Bill" answered: "False Witness!").   The fabulous prize Bill won, courtesy of show sponsor Common Good Books, was one copy of Bill Prendergast's exceptional comic book:  "False Witness! The Michele Bachmann Story (Volume 3)"!!!

The Bachmann MotorMouth Overdrive quote I read, is below the fold!

And one question we asked Toni, State Coordinator for the Minnesota Tea Party Patriots was submitted via comment here, on MPP - here's that question!

I'd ask....

If the Tea Party guy actually realized the real Tea Partiers were protesting a tax CUT. The tea partiers were actually protesting the take over by a multi-national corporation, the British East India company. The tax cut made tea super cheap, allowing the British East India (Walmart) the ability to undercut all the American merchants.

So, I would ask the Tea Party guy if he is just as afraid of the corporate take over of America as he is of the government take over.

Thanks,
Alec

Well, thank YOU for submitting that question, Alec!!!

Also, LTC (Ret.) Joe Repya discussed his candidacy for Governor, and clarified that there is a big difference between "suspend" and "end" - and for the record, Colonel Repya has "suspended" his campaign.

So again, if you missed it, you can still listen to it, by linking here!

TwoPutt On The Radio, Tonight - What Would You Ask A "Tea Party Patriot"?

by: TwoPuttTommy

Tue Mar 09, 2010 at 11:00:00 AM CST

Ladies and Gentlemen, yours truly - the ol' TwoPutter - is Guest Hosting tonight's Wednesday Edition of "Minnesota Matters" on AM-950 KTNF, The Voice of Minnesota!  And we're going to have two very special guests in studio - Toni Backdahl, the State Coordinator for the Minnesota Tea Party Patriots, and LTC(Ret.) Joe Repya, who recently suspended his bid for Governor under the Independence Party banner.

It should be a fascinating conversation, and I'm sure one of the subjects discussed will be Former Senator Dean Barkley's invitation for the Tea Party to take over the IP Party.

The Listener Call-In Number is 952-946-6205, or, if you have a question you'd like me to ask of either Ms. Backdahl or Colonel Repya, submit it below in the comments section!

In addition to talking about news, we're going to be interviewing Jacob Reitan about what has to be done to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell so our homosexual brothers and sisters can defend our great country without having to hide who they are --- and one of those things that has to be done, to get this done, is there are a whole bunch of Democratic Party Senators and CongressCritters need to GET A SPINE.

We'll also be talking with Eliot Seide, Executive Director of AFSCME Minnesota Council 5.  Last Wednesday, at a Labor Rally at the Capitol in St. Paul, Mr. Seide held a model of a human backbone and told Minnesota's legislators to GET A SPINE.

TPT On Your Radio Today, Friday, February 5th, 2010!

by: TwoPuttTommy

Fri Feb 05, 2010 at 11:41:20 AM CST

Ladies and Gentlemen, yours truly - the ol' TwoPutter - is hosting, as usual, the Friday Edition of "Minnesota Matters" on AM-950 KTNF, The Voice of Minnesota!  The show runs from 6:00 to 7pm. So, tune in your radio today to AM-950, or listen live on your computer, here.  Joining in-studio will be ace field reporter/political analyst Dusty Trice!

In addition to talking about news, we're going to be interviewing best-selling author Thomas Frank about his latest book, The Wrecking Crew - How Conservatives Ruined Government, Enriched Themselves, And Beggared The Nation".  For years, I've referred to the previous administration as "Boy Blunder And The Plunderers."  In fact, until the misAdministration of Bush The Lesser, I never thought I'd see the day I'd actually miss Richard Milhous Nixon.  I received a copy of "The Wrecking Crew" for Christmas, and discovered a book that concisely explains how and why the GreedOverPrinciples party wrought the damage of they did.

Then we're going to take a break from politics, and talk with a pilot from Minnesota's Air National Guard, who recently returned from a two week disaster relief deployment, flying supplies frrom Puerto Rico to Haiti.  The discussion with The Good Captain will be strictly non-partisan.  Politics has no place with regards to respecting our fellow citizen-soldiers and supporting the job they do.  Our military is all volunteer, and the people that signed up did so knowing that the price they may pay while wearing a uniform might just be the ultimate sacrifice.  Anybody with any problem with what our citizen-soldiers do, needs to take it up with our elected officials - NOT the brave men and women wearing our nation's uniform.  Period.  End of story.

And after that conversation, it's back to politics!

We'll definitely  play "False Or False Witness!" where one lucky caller will have to correctly identify if a quote I read was actually uttered by Michele Bachmann (answer "False Witness!") or if yours truly, the ol' TwoPutter, simply made it up (answer "false").  The fabulous prize awarded, courtesy of show sponsor Common Good Books, is one copy of Bill Prendergast's exceptional comic book:  False Witness! The Michele Bachmann Story (Volume 1).  There might even be a "bonus question", with that prize bein' Volume 2!

So, again, tune in the radio today to AM-950, or listen live on your computer, here.
