Chris Knopf is running against Carol McFarlane in SD53B. Chris ran against her two years ago and unfortunately lost. Chris is definitely the better candidate. Carol is the incumbent.
Let's take a look at the differences between the two. Carol has an AA degree in general studies from Lakewood State Junior College (now Century College). She is the chief author of seven bills. They are listed here:

They are all bills pertaining to finance and funding. She has also co-authored many bills. However, I don't see any bills that address the issues of the poor and needy. Indeed, Carol McFarlane has voted against the override of Governor Pawlenty's veto of the GAMC bill. Even though she previously voted in favor of the bill itself. When asked why she voted against the override, she responded that she's just waiting for a better bill and she'll vote in favor of that.
Right.
I had asked her to vote in favor of the override. She did not reply to my email, although she had replied to earlier ones regarding friends we knew in high school.
At the annual Bruce Vento Dinner, last night, Congresswoman Betty McCollum rocked the room with her speech on healthcare, with statements like:
Republicans in Congress are the party of profits, not working people. And when I say
profits, I don't mean Old Testament "prophets" -I am talking about corporate profits. They are fighting for the CEOs and the profiteers, notregular folks who can't afford to fill theirprescription or even go to see a doctor.
You know there is a lot of talk about how Democrats need to reach out to Republicans and work for a "bipartisan" health care bill. I am sick and tired of talk of a bipartisan health care bill - that's just a plan for less health care for people in need and more profits for corporations driven by greed. Since I've been in Congress there have been a number of historic bipartisan bills -historically bad!
Woohoo, my representative is getting tough! Full speech below the fold!
I very proud of my House Representative Betty McCollum for work like this:
I am pleased the House passed my amendment to the National Water Research and Development Initiative Act (H.R. 1145), which establishes a comprehensive federal approach to water quality research that leverages all national and local partners. The provision expands the larger bill to include a provision to evaluate the nation's water supply, in light of increased risk due to chemical contaminants, such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and endocrine disrupting compounds. This is the type of great wonderful action that is just not making normal news!
