Class Versus Crass

When Dr. Hackett conceded her race for endorsement, she said, and I quote:

"By the way, Jim - I'll have your back."

Both Dr. Hackett and Meffert had agreed to abide; when Dr. Hackett lost she lost with class.

On the other hand, this one - from an e-mail just in:

Shelley Madore back in the race against John Kline

Dear Tommy,

I wanted you to be among the first to know that I have decided to place my name on the August 10 primary ballot seeking the DFL endorsement in the Second Congressional District to run against John Kline.

Both Dan Powers and Shelley Madore had agreed to abide by the endorsement, as cited here and here.

That was then; this is now - and Shelley Madore getting back in the race is great news - for John Kline.

Looks like Shelley Madore is pulling a Maureen Reed, or Priscilla Lord Faris.   Rather than doing what's best to beat John Kline - in Ferris' case, ol' Smokescreen - Madore seems to be chasing a vanity campaign.  Considering how poorly Madore's endorsement campaign was run, I doubt she'll accomplish  anything other than a spoiler role as evidenced by the two to one 2nd ballot endorsement vote: the DFL Activists are solidly behind Powers.

The posts on Madore's Facebook Page are none too complimentary, either.

A call to Dave Griggs - Madore's Campaign Manager - for comment was not returned; Caroline Sampson - Campaign Financier Spokesman - cited "fundraising" as a major reason for Madore's flip-flopping reneging - more on that, later.

At least Maureen Reed was clear on not abiding; Madore can't even say that.

"Crass" is what I say.

Shelley needs to face reality. (0.00 / 0)
I've met Shelley before and was impressed by her. But the rethuglicans targeted her in 2008 and she lost her district while Obama won it. Comes 2010 and she lost the endorsement, fair and square. Sorry Shelley, but you lost and there's no way you're going to win the primary with no $$$ in the campaign piggy bank.

I'm not crazy about the MN DFL endorsement process. That said, if one promises to abide by the endorsement one had best do that.

Madore turned out to be a liar. She should reconsider and keep her word.

I need some education (0.00 / 0)

Help me out here ... Madore's reasons are :
1.) low fundraising numbers
2.) encouragement from others

OK, neither Powers or Madore's fundraising numbers are exactly exciting ... Randy Demmer in the First District as a sitting Representative has generated only $71,592 to date of which $52,392 was in the past quarter.  Former Representative Allen Quist raised a total of $53,196 including $20,343 in the past quarter.  Neither of these totals are Clark/Reed type money ... these are typical numbers when someone is going up against an incumbent ... and when there are two competing, people will hold back.  So, Madore will most likely keep negatively impacting the fundraising.

Who are these people encouraging her to run in the primary ?  Are the current candidates that don't want Powers on the ballot ?  Madore should have a press release listing the movers and shakers that want her on the primary ballot.

Lastly, why ?  I can understand if there is a major philosophical difference ... pro-life/pro-choice ... pro-military/ peace ... pro-business / pro-union ... pro-healthcare reform / status-quo ...  a scandal, etc ...  if so, please educate me ?

If Madore thought she wanted to do this, then she should have told the delegates ahead of time ... ideally, telling them that if a candidate gets over 40% on the first ballot, then the candidate has an option to run in the primary .... But this sounds like sour grapes ... much like when a team doesn't qualify for the NCAA basketball tournament ... Madore should have gotten in sooner or campaigned harder.
