Bachmann's healthcare declaration of independence

Rep. Michele Bachmman (R-MN) has got ideas on how to save America from Obamacare.  She's going to stop those death panels and socialists from ruining America.  She's apparently going to announce her very own Bachmann-care!  Unfortunately, her secret plans of how to save America were leaked.

It appears that Bachmann-care won't cover anyone without health insurance or ... actually ... do much of anything at all except score her political points with the knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers who will likely mistake this for policy.

A GOP source passes along an embargoed copy of Michele Bachmann's "Declaration of Health Care Independence" - an alternative blueprint for health care that is supposed to shed the party of its "party of no" label by giving voters an option.

The declaration was circulated to GOP staffers with the prohibition, "PLEASE DO NOT SEND THIS TO ANYONE. The document is to be embargoed until after the press conference on Wednesday. Let me know if you any questions!"

The document turns out to be less than specific - mostly a litany of Bachmann's favorite pledges to fight socialized medicine and uphold the Constitution.

It makes no mention of goals articulated by many in Republican leadership, including health care portability, removal of coverage caps and scrapping coverage denial based on pre-existing conditions.

It does contain a vow to hit Democrats on three wedge issues by coaxing signees to back abortion bans, blocking benefits to undocumented immigrants and a prohibition on the public option.

Detailed examination of her silliness after the break.

The Big E :: Bachmann's healthcare declaration of independence
Here's the preamble:

"In order to retain the Blessings of Liberty as secured to us by our Founding Fathers and as expressed in our Constitution, We the People reject the imposition upon us of a new, Washington-controlled system of government-run health care. We demand Constitutional protection of the right to make our own health decisions and our own health care choices free of government denials, bureaucratic red-tape, and greater intergenerational debt."

The "blessings of liberty ... as expressed in our constitution?"  Michele?  Are you going tenther on us again?

Michele demands the right to make health care choices free of government death panels.  Remember, she's a "deather", too.

Of course she isn't going to mention the corporate death panels run by the health insurance industry that are responsible for approximately 42,000 deaths every year.  Death panels are real, just not in the way that Michele wants to think about them.

A Washington takeover of American health care will
1) Deny fundamental personal and economic liberties and indisputably violate the Principle of Limited Government as established by the Constitution;
2) Impose increased costs and taxes upon individuals, families, and businesses, as well as taxpayers at the federal, state, and local levels;
3) Irreparably cripple the American economy, at the cost of jobs, businesses, productivity, and quality of life;
4) Create an inescapable new tax by imposing individual and employer mandates;
5) Institutionalize a massive, ever-expanding federal bureaucracy that is impersonal and impractical;
6) Empower bureaucrats to interfere in the doctor-patient relationship, undermine the quality of care, limit choice, and increase the cost of health care.

We have appealed to the decency of the elected majority to respect the rights of all Americans, but their leaders have been deaf to the Voice of the People. We are appalled by their cavalier disregard of the Constitution and of the demands of the People. We are repulsed by their blatant political bribes and kickbacks.
We, therefore, the People and Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, do solemnly Publish and Declare that health care reform, as a matter of principle must
1) Protect as inviolate the vital doctor-patient relationship;
2) Reject any addition to the crushing national debt heaped upon all Americans;
3) Improve, rather than diminish, the quality of care that Americans enjoy;
4) Be negotiated publically, transparently, with genuine accountability and oversight, and be free from political favoritism;
5) Treat private citizens at least as well as political officials;
6) Protect taxpayers from compulsory funding of abortion;
7) Reject all new mandates on patients, employers, individuals, or states;
8) Prohibit expansion of taxpayer funded health care to those unlawfully present in the United States;
9) Guarantee Equal Protection under the law and the Constitution;
10) Empower, rather than limit, an open and accessible marketplace of health care choice and opportunity.

One of my favorite axioms (0.00 / 0)
"You can say it, but that doesn't make it true."

I can also say that if I wear my Vikings jersey, the Vikings will win.  That doesn't make it true.  (too soon?)

Everything in the first 6 falls in that category.

I think the interesting thing is that I agree with many of the final 10 things - protect the doctor-patient relationship, improve the quality of care, empower an open marketplace of health care choices.  I just figure that single-payer will provide those better than the current system, if only because I naively think the current system is the problem and other countries that have gone with single-payer provide many of those things.

Of course, the whole thing is along the lines of a "puppies are cute" level of discourse.  What does she expect, people to respond "No!  Quality Care is Bad!!!1!1!"?
