As far as public statements are concerned, Al Franken's on-tape shutdown of Joe Lieberman's bloviation was simply a matter of keeping to a tight schedule. Fair'nuff. Of course, it led their colleague (and 2008 Republican presidential candidate) John McCain to remark that in 20 years in the Senate, he'd never seen anything like that.

Really? Via Political Wire:

However, a Political Wire reader sends this excerpt from the Congressional Record from October 10, 2002:
The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator's time has expired.
Mr. DAYTON. I ask for unanimous consent that I have 30 seconds more to finish my remarks.
Mr. McCAIN. I object.

As Sen. McCain himself once remarked, it's a Google, and it's pretty amazing what you can find out there.

But it is interesting that McCain objected to another Senator from Minnesota, then found it shocking when another tried to move things along.
