Dave Asp= uber conservative and tea party star?
Just last year he was criticized in the Republican party for being too liberal. A huge John McCain supporter from the beginning yes, but a tea party star and uber-conservative he is not.
I know that email sent out by some psycho, and someone vandalizing Amber's signs, both despicable acts (Dave helped Amber remove the stickers from her lawn signs when he found out), got you riled up, but I had to laugh at the notion that Dave is some tea party going uber-conservative...not very good reporting on your part.
It's too bad if you're someone like David, a moderate conservative, you get attacked by the left as being some radical, and attacked by the right as being some liberal.
It's fair game to consider points of view from both sides of the aisle on candidates and campaigners. And the kind of "too liberal" accusations the reader describes have been happening -- a LOT -- in the GOP in the past year (witness the debacle in NY-23 that led to the election of a Democrat in that district for the first time since Ulysses Grant was around).
I'm quite certain David Asp is a nice guy -- there are very few mean people around here. But ultimately, campaigns like these are decided on a fairly small subset of issues -- and whether Asp asked for it or not, the loonies were supporting him and trying really hard at the last minute to get him elected to the City Council. A candidate is responsible both for his own conduct on the campaign trail and that of his supporters.
Especially in a race where every single vote counts.
