| As Michele Bachmann's career continues to soar, her chiefs of staff continue to fall like ducks during hunting season.
Latest to go is Michele Marston, famous for resenting me on the phone. She announced that she was leaving today, just prior to Michele's attempt to raise a huge mob to march on Congress itself.
Months on end of facing the press in defense of Bachmann's craziness have clearly taken their toll on Marston. Questioned about her departure from the Bachmann staff, Marston expostulated all over an email:
"I'm just not talking about it, and frankly I don't think there's a story here," Marston wrote. "Now, the thousands of people calling our office to tell us [they're] coming to Capitol Hill tomorrow - that's a story."
Well, I think they're both stories. And I don't think she should be snapping at the press like that. You should exit with style, if you're a congressional chief of staff.
Marston is right that "Bachmann's March on Washington" is a story--but so is the departure of yet another Bachmann chief of staff, the latest to go through the trap door in Bachmann's office, and "I DON'T want to TALK about it!"
Why? Why did she go? She won't say, so our only clue is a comment by an anonymous "conservative legislator" quoted in the Politico article:
A conservative Republican House member, speaking on the condition of anonymity, suggested that Bachman's views - and her willingness to state them - make it hard for her to keep staff.
"When your captain's crazy, it's time to find a new ship," the lawmaker said.
So say we all!
