| Well, ya know--conservatives are supposed to be against the government comin' in and stiflin' innovation and regulating every darn thing.
But there she goes again, Michele Bachmann, claims she wants to put the brakes on those out of control anti-business regulators in Washington--and then she votes for big government regulation of the private sector.
Her name is on a letter demanding that Google stop blocking telephone calls to rural telephone exchanges. She and other legislators argue that that's "unfair" because it violates big government regulation of telephone carriers.
Moments like this, by the way, are the reason that so many informed liberals and progressives realize that conservatism is absolute nonsense. According to the conservative playbook, conservative legislator Bachmann and her colleagues should step back from this Google fracas and let the market sort it out. That's what the conservatives who talk about "market solutions" and "freedom from government" and "liberty" would counsel.
Unfortunately, waiting for a new private sector solution to get rural calls through would make her less popular in her district. So she jettisons that core principle real quick, you betcha--citing those big government regulations, fiats, arrogant federal commands, that dictate to the private sector what their business model should be.
Was there ever a real conservative in elected government, anywhere, at any time? Or was it always hypocrites?
