When do we start discussing treason?

Via Crooks and Liars, John L. Perry at Newsmax appears to be skirting the cliff where we really should start discussing treason.
America isn't the Third World. If a military coup does occur here it will be civilized. That it has never happened doesn't mean it wont. Describing what may be afoot is not to advocate it. So, view the following through military eyes:
Let's view it with the attitude we were all expected to adopt when the Bush Administration actually was trampling on the Constitution: Perry doesn't specifically denounce what he claims to see, therefore he's aiding and abetting those who, according to him, are leaning toward executing a coup against our democratically elected government. Ergo he should be thrown in jail, right? And no, just because liberals said Bush was trampling on the Constitution doesn't mean it's true when politically motivated reactionaries say the same thing about Obama.

As C&L points out, this ridiculous piece of unpatriotic stupidity was suggested by none other than Rush Limbaugh months ago.

Patriotism isn't loving your country when you get your way. Patriotism is loving our country, our democracy, and our civil rights even when you don't get your way.

Whining about our government's policies (which, compared to the rest of the world, are so far from extreme as to make it a joke to suggest otherwise) and making noise about military coups if you don't get your way...that goes way beyond stupid, folks.

Do these people even care how this looks to the rest of the world? Or are they so blinded by hate and rage and the possibility that they might be wrong that they forget how history will judge them?

Update: It appears that Newsmax realized the trouble they were about to get into and removed the seditious article. Smart.

So, just where the (cheney) is Ann "Treason!!!" Coulter on this one???!? (0.00 / 0)
Well, actually, who cares?  She's a nutjob that might actually APPLAUD this tripe.

I cannot believe the rightwingnuts are actually advocating armed insurrection - a military coup d'etat.

Just earlier this decade, the rightwingnuts were calling anyone that didn't bootlick for the misAdministration of Boy Blunder And The Plunderers "America haters" and "trators" - their motto is "you're either with us, or against us" and there was no "loyal opposition" in the Karl Rove Smear Playbook.

Now, you have Michele Bachmann calling for her fellow travelers to be armed and dangerous; many of those said followers believe the tree of liberty must be watered with blood of patriots once in a while.  Unfortunately, they believe that if they shed a little blood, they're the patriots...

And you have this nutjob, John L. Perry, advocating for a "civilized" coup  ---  to "save the Constitution."

"Save the Constitution"??!?  The last misAdministration shredded it long ago.  The allegedly "conservative" inJustice Dept. of Bush The Lesser that believed it can not only take an American citizen's guns, it had the "right" take you, your spouse, your children, and any property of yours it wants, and you have NO RIGHT to challenge the government's actions in court.

All they have to do is question your "patriotism", and off you go.  Video, below.

Fortunately, the odds of a military insurrection are infinitesimal - despite the GreedOverPrinciples party's attemts to turn the good ol' USofA into a two-class third-world banana republic, it ain't - yet.

If there were ever a time that there may have been a military revolt, it was during the misAdministration of Boy Blunder And The Plunderers.  However, rather than revolt, 6 Generals acted in the honorable way.  Read about it, here

And here's that YouTube, of 'Berto Gonzo saying American Citizens do NOT have the right to habeas corpus:

"Those that forget the lessons of history, tend to vote GOP"

"Those that forget the lessons of history, tend to vote GOP"

not surprised a bit (0.00 / 0)
My lack of surprise isn't merely from a distrust of the extreme right, but from history. There was an attempted coup against FDR in 1934. Some titans of industry thought the bonus marchers --- World War I veterans who demanded their bonuses early due to the Depression, and whose encampment in DC was broken up by the army --- could be turned into a militia which could force FDR to end his reforms and take orders from the coup leaders. They chose a retired general, Smedley Butler, to lead the militia because he was popular with the bonus marchers, and he had a record leading interventions overseas on behalf of corporate interests. Butler however was angry at being used as a uniformed bully during his career, and he turned in the plotters. If he hadn't, who knows how far the coup would have gotten.

So with the same rhetoric now and the same "economic royalists" (FDR's term) angry at a reforming administration put in place by catastrophe, why shouldn't we expect the far right to talk about a coup?
