Looks like the Guy Who Used To Consider His Job As Governor Important is heading to Virginia to help Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell raise some money.September 9
Luncheon with Governor Tim Pawlenty
TIME: 12 PM. - 2:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Richmond Marriott, 500 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA.
$2,500 Per Person or PAC Real man of the people, this McDonnell guy. $2,500 just to talk to the guy -- but it's okay, if you're a Political Action Committee, you can probably afford that, right?
Raise your hand if you are or own a political action committee.
Moving on. Let's see what else Mr. McDonnell written or said...
Oh right, this is him. McDonnell argued, among other things, that working women and feminists are "detrimental" to the family; that government policy should favor married couples over "cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators;" and that the court decision legalizing the use of contraception by unmarried couples was "illogical," because at the time non-marital sex was itself a crime.
Now we've taken our own look at the thesis -- written for Regent University in 1989, when McDonnell was already a married man of 34 years old. And it looks like the Post left out some other excerpts that might also give readers some pause. McDonnell is free to be as big an insane cultural reactionary as he wants, similaries to the Taliban aside. But is this the kind of insanity with which Tim Pawlenty is trying to associate himself? The kinds of attitudes that have given rise to the Birthers, Deathers, and other misguided fools who now comprise the majority of the Republican Party?
I guess if you're positioning yourself for a run for President against the likes of Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and others, you don't have much choice. Still, it's an embarrassment to Minnesota that our "Governor" is cozying up to the Michele Bachmann wing of his party by appearing with McDonnell. If Tim Pawlenty even cares anymore what his home state thinks of reactionary ideologues with attitudes like McDonnell's, he would immediately cancel this appearance.
I won't hold my breath. |
