Margaret Anderson-Kelliher files to run for MN-Gov

Speaker of the Minnesota House Margaret Anderson-Kelliher filed her paperwork today to run for Governor.  She joins a crowded field of candidates including ... aw heck ... who's not running is really the question.

MAK brings a lot to the campaign.  Her rural roots and powerful position at the legislature make her quite formidable.  She's had significant successes and failures at the legislature, but the bottom line is she's been a leader these last few years as the state legislature has done amazing things like override 2012 Presidential candidate and occasional MN Governor Tim Pawlenty's veto.

Over the past few months I have traveled the state talking to Minnesotans just like you. Today, with the support of my family, friends and people across the state, I took the first step to become our next governor by filing the necessary paperwork to run.

Whoever wins is going to have a tough job cleaning up the mess Pawlenty's leaving.  Who better than someone as familiar with state government like Margaret.  She sure does make it tough for us waffling undecideds.

If she's the candidate, (0.00 / 0)
I'll vote for her, and I hope she makes a great governor.  But...

I was startled when I heard, with perhaps ten days to go in the legislative session, that no effort was being made to recruit the 3-4 Republicans needed to override a certain Pawlenty veto of the House Dems.' relatively rational, humane approach to dealing with the budget.

From here, it looks like MAK got played for a fool and a sucker by Tim Pawlenty.  I'd welcome an explanation/argument proving me wrong on that.

Oh no, not again (0.00 / 0)
I suspect we are all a lot smarter today than in 2006, 2002, 1998, 1994, and 1990, but let's remind ourselves that nominating a "next in line" candidate like MAK has been a disastrous move for the DFL.  MAK's negatives are higher than anyone except for Entenza (and maybe Dayton), and Pawlenty continues to make her look incompetent and most certainly politically impotent.  If we want to win, we need to keep our eyes on the bigger picture and nominate someone like Paul Thissen or Chris Coleman.

Do you have numbers to back up the "negatives are higher than anyone except Entenza or Dayton" claim?
