| MN Governor Tim Pawlenty has stated that he will use his power of unallotment to deal with Minnesota's massive budget deficit. While this is obviously a bad thing, how will this play out?
Cities and counties will slash basic services. Police, fire, hospital staff will be let go. Unemployment will rise drastically as thousands of state workers join the ranks of the unemployed. City park unmowed, tens of thousands thrown off the state healthcare programs, city streets filled with potholes, more homeless wandering the streets. Some of these homeless will be vets. I have a very active imagination and I could go on, but I think you're starting to get the idea.
It. Is. Going. To. Be. U. G. L. Y.
What's your reaction? Follow below the fold and for my speculation as to how this might play out. |
| If there was one single thing we could do to fix our problems, what would that be? If you answered, get a new Governor, you win a free ... um ... brand new ... uh ... piece of lutefisk to decorate your home with.
Regardless of whether Pawlenty runs for reelection, how will the impact of unallotment affect the race? I think it will play a critical role. If we make the 2010 Governor's race about it.
If the DFL plays this right, we'll hammer away on five things:
- We are in the mess we are in today because of Republican leadership of this state.
- Can we afford to trust another Republican in this office?
- Republicans are the party of borrow-n-spend fiscal policy, we cannot have another fiscally irresponsible Governor.
- Our cities need police, fire and hospitals.
- Republicans always make the poorest of the poor suffer, this is not the Minnesota way. We used to
We can make the election of 2010 about the failures of the Republicans. |
