Bake Sales for Education at the State Capital

by: Grace Kelly

Mon May 11, 2009 at 23:38:11 PM CDT

State level funding for education has been so inadequate that many schools are now depending on fundraisers like bake sales. Yet Republican Pawlenty still protects the rich, in paying less in overall tax rates than all of the rest of us.

So tomorrow, the District 279 - Osseo Area Schools parents will be holding a State Capitol "Bake Sale" to emphasize the need for state school funding:

WHO: Members of the Minnesota House of Representatives and the Minnesota Senate

WHAT: "Bake Sale" sponsored by District 279 - Osseo Area School District and other public school parents

WHEN: Tuesday, May 12,2009 12:00 - 3:00PM

WHERE: State Capitol Rotunda

Don't we increase Education Funding (0.00 / 0)
every budget? how is it still now enough? I mean do we even know a dollar amount?

say if we only spent THIS much more THEN our education system will work?

Our cash supply isn't infinite and we have a bunch of other problems also, it seems we want sorry NEED more bike trails in Minneapolis. pretty sure that should get more funding way before something like education.

Or I'd like my investigations arm of the Minneapolis Civil Rights department to stick around.

pues es la vida.

at the same time our Governor is borrowing $1 billion dollars and we face a bigger hole next budget, I am glad we are still calling for increases in spending.

budget crisis what budget crisis.

Fiscal Responsibility (0.00 / 0)
If we simply taxed the richest 10% of our Minnesota population at the SAME overall Minnesota tax rate as the poorest 10% of our population, we would solve our budget crisis. If we even had not had the Pawlenty tax cuts that focused primarily on the rich for all these years, then we would had the reserves to handle this. If we had not built a stadium, paid rush prices for a new bridge, etc. The basic business of government is important. Pawlenty's budget management consists of buying a new car and a new boat instead paying the bills, fixing the house and putting food on the table. Did the stadium folks hold bake sales - ever?
